Résumé : |
This paper presents research that shows that the use of an organometallic ester-based (OME) corrosion inhibitor significantly improves the flash rust resistance and long-term corrosion protection of an alkyd emulsion paint on cold rolled steel substrates without negatively affecting the performance properties of the cured paint film. Environmental testing was done on the cured alkyd emulsion paints, which included the OME-based corrosion inhibitor and a traditional anticorrosive pigment typically used for alkyd emulsion paints, over cold rolled steel (CRS) for 1000+hr in a 5% NaCI salt fog chamber. Adhesion of the cured paint films to the CRS substrate mas tested using direct and reverse impact testing and crosshatch adhesion. Both the environmental and adhesion test results indicated that there were significant improvements in the performance of the cured alkyd emulsion paints that had incorporated the OME corrosion inhibitor when used in conjunction with a traditional anticorrosive pigment. Improvements were also seen when using the organometallic ester corrosion inhibitor alone when directly compared to an alkyd emulsion paint that used a traditional anticorrosive pigment. The improved performance of the alkyd emulsion paint, when using an organometallic ester-based corrosion inhibitor, would allow the alkyd emulsion paints to equal that obtained when using solvent-based alkyd paints, thereby reducing the reliance on solvent-based paints for light industrial applications. |
