At this ratio the percolation barrier is exceeded. The produced filaments are highly conductive for polymers with a conductivity of 10 S/m to a = 50 S/m. Compared to pure polymer, which is rather an electric insulator (a = 10-5 S/m to a = 10-12 S/m ), this is a quite good property ; compared to iron or copper in the range of ? = 107 S/m further improvement is needed to have a fully conductive polymer. Indeed, this semiconductive property is the reason vvhy this compound is suitable of fiber-based heating. The electric tosses are used for heat generation. By varying the production process parameters, the influence of different variables is analyzed and the desired properties are optimized. So far, compound produced at the ITA had conductivities in the single-digit S/m area. The improvement by a factor of 10 is further described in the paper. Note de contenu : - Compound manufacture

Polybutylène succinateIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : In view of gradually dwindling oil deposits and the growing environmental consciousness of manufacturers and consumers, polymer materials consisting of renewable resources are considered as auspicious materials for next-generation textiles. Hovvever, the costs of biopolymers currently amount to more than twice of those of commodity polymers like polyamides and polyolefins. In addition, textiles being composed of polyamides and conventional polyesters like polyethylene terephthalate (PET), with a worldwide production volume of 15 million tons and 55 million tons (2015), respectively, are dominating today's textile industry. In the European market, 100,000 tons of biodegradable polymers were used for commercial purposes in 2015, whereby packaging applications are dominant. Note de contenu : - RESEARCH PROJECT PBSTEX

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : This research explains the melt spinning of bicomponent fibers which consist of a conductive polypropylene (PP) core and a sheath with piezoelee tric characteristics (polyvinylidene fluoride). Previously analyzed piezoelectric capabilities of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) are to be exploited in sensor filaments. The fiber core is conductive due to a percolation CNT network in polypropylene. The sheath's piezoelectric effect is based on the formation of an all-trans conformation 13 phase, caused by draw-winding of the fibers. The core and sheath structure are characterized through wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The distribution of CNTs in the polymer matrix, which affects the conductivity of the core, was investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Optical microscopy is used to determine the fibers' diameter regularity (core and sheath). The materials' viscosity is determined by rheometry. Eventually, an LCR tester is used to determine the core's specific resistance. Note de contenu : - AIM OF STUDY
