Revêtements poudre:Peinture poudreIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The notion of powder coating was first conceived in the 1950s by the German scientist Erwin Gemmer. (1) Significant commercial acceptance did not materialize until the early 1960s when pipeline makers began using thermosetting epoxy powders to replace multiple coats of liquid technology. (2) These functional powders were applied at thick films to heavy gauge steel pipes and valves used to convey oil and natural gas.
It was not until the late 1970s that the powder coating industry's commercial growth accelerated. (3) Through the combination of new resin technology (mainly polyester) and refinements in electrostatic application techniques, the nascent powder coating industry entered markets requiring not only functional performance but aesthetics as well. Groundbreaking innovation captured large portions of the appliance (white goods) and fabricated metals markets. This growth progressed through the 1980s as powder coatings replaced liquid finishing lines throughout Western Europe and North America.
The 1990s ushered in significant advances in application and formulating technology that provided materials and processes able to exceed demanding automotive specifications. High quality powder coatings were introduced as primer-surfacers at numerous General Motors and Chrysler assembly plants. Perhaps one of the most significant achievements in powder coating technology occurred in 1997 when BMW introduced acrylic-based powder coatings as their clear topcoat finishing process in their Dingolfing, Germany plant.
By the turn of the century, powder coating technology had conquered the fabricated metal finishing industry. If a manufactured part was metal and could fit in an oven, there was a high probability that it was powder coated. Unfortunately, the new century also brought an economic recession and with it stagnation in growth in the European and North American powder markets. There were too many powder producers pursuing the same established business. Consolidation and market contraction ensued, leaving advances in powder coating technology to stall in the background.Note de contenu : - Capturing the metal finishing market

Revêtement poudre -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author discusses the use of hard minerals to enhance powder coating performance.
Powder coatings continue to expand their share of the industrial coatings market mainly because of their high performance combined with excellent economics. The application of powder coatings can be highly efficient as the oversprayed material can be collected and recycled back into the finishing process. This minimises waste streams, which allows powder's environmental profile to align well with both corporate and regulatory sustainability goals.
Experts forecast robust growth of powder coatings. Global sales of powder coatings in 2021 are estimated to be around US$12.5bn (€10.6bn) with a volume of approximately 5.5bn lbs. (2.5M tonnes). Growth is projected at 3.9 to 5.4% per annum for the next five years.
Abrasion resistance in powder coatings is an important property. Some powders are used to coat items that are subjected to extreme environments such as oil and gas transmission pipelines, whereas other powder coatings are used in decorative applications where appearance is critical. These decorative finishes must maintain their appearance after the handling of parts during assembly and everyday wear and tear.
Improving abrasion resistance is a sought-after goal of powder coating formulators, whether for functional or aesthetic purposes. The use of high hardness minerai fillers is considered one avenue to increase abrasion resistance in powder coatings. This study examines the effect that white fused alumine, nepheline syenite and silicon carbide have on the abrasion resistance of a common powder coating system based on polyester-HAA (hydroxy-alkyl amide) chemistry.Note de contenu : - WESTER MINERALIEN : Objective - Materials - Formulation platform - Processing conditions

Revêtements poudreIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Advances in low-temperature cure were introduced recently as well as powders capable of meeting high durability standards such as American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) 2605 and Qualicoat Class 3 (both require 10 years Florida durability).
To meet these specifications the coating must pass the following tests: dry adhesion, wet adhesion, boiling water adhesion, impact resistance, abrasion resistance, muriatic acid resistance, mortar resistance, nitric acid resistance, detergent resistance, window cleaner resistance, 4000 h humidity resistance, 4000 h salt spray resistance and 10 years South Florida durability with a maximum ΔE color change of 5.0 units and 50% gloss retention.
These architectural specifications represent the most demanding coating requirements for commercial buildings such as skyscrapers and stadiums. In addition, sustainable technologies are emerging based on either recycled plastic feedstocks or biobased raw materials. Moreover, binders exhibiting enhanced corrosion resistance and edge coverage have been recently debuted. Corresponding new developments have occurred in testing and application technology.Note de contenu : - Sustainability
