Cuirs et peaux -- BiodégradationIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Hides and skins are bio-based (rich in carbon and nitrogen), and left without preservation, will biodegrade in ten days. The tanning process takes a vulnerable, wet substrates and, upon drying, turns it into a material that resists physical and biochemical (from bacteria and fungi) actions. Leather is processed in a wide variety of manners that range from light treatments to heavy treatments. The chemicals used to do these treatments themselves range in biodegradability from short-term biodegradability to degradability that take hundreds or thousands of years. If a inert, non-biodegradable substance is used in the treatment of those leathers, then the leathers themselves will take a long time to biodegrade. It is important to get the terminology of the biodegradability claims correct. Publications is the past few years have confused the terms used in describing the difference between substance biodegradability and leather biodegradability. This article hopes to address this issue.
It is not appropriate to use the terms from the chem_ical industry (relating to substances) in the description of leather, and other materials, cor one main reason ; the metrics used in substance testing cannot be applied meaningfully in a leather measurement because leather is not a substance - it is a composite of substances.Note de contenu : - OECD 301 claims (substances)

FiltrationIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The tanning industry takes the treatment of its liquid wastes very seriously. Wastewater treatment plants have steadily developed since the middle of the 20th Century. The main strategies for treatment fall into three main categories : mechanical, chemical and biological treatment. These are often stitched together to provide an overall strategy. It is fair to say that very loosely, the biological treatment strategies are used for tanneries with access to more land, and chemical treatment strategies are used for tanneries with limited space. Travail de rivière (cuir)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : With manufacturer and purchase sentiment shilling towards leathers that have less of an impact on society and the environment, the challenge for tanners is to maintain a top quality product while at the same time improving their environmental footprint. One way is to replace the traditional chemicals used in the beamhouse with natural biotech alternatives—which is exactlywhat Stahl's recently expanded Proviera® - Probiotics for leatherTM portfolio does.
It's no secret that beamhouse processes have a big impact on the sustainability of leather. First, processing hides and skins to produce leather generates high quantifies of wastewater and solid residues. In fact, nearly 70% of the wastewater in the traditional leather production process originates in the beamhouse. Second, every ton of salted bovine hide requires 500 kgs of synthetic chemicals to create 250 kgs of leather. This means that every kilogram reduction in synthetic chemicals required is a positive step and replacing traditional beamhouse chemicals with natural products can have a big impact in terms of reducing wastewater reduction and shrinking the environmental footprint.

Son objectif est de produire des biens et services tout en limitant fortement la consommation et le gaspillage des matières premières, et des sources d'énergies non renouvelables ;
As demand for sustainable leather shows no sign of slowing cown, Italy Dasec tannins producer Silvateam has responced by offering innovative solutions to answer the call for more eco-friendly products.
