Résumé : |
Sealants based on silyl-terminated polyethers (MS sealants) have become the most used type of sealant in Japan since their introduction some 20 years ago. In Europe, the interest in MS sealants dates back to the late 1980s and can be attributed in part to their environmental friendliness. The current market size for MS sealants in Europe is believed to be around 25%, or one-third of Japan's construction sealant market use. In the United States, MS sealants have been used primarily for industrial applications ; construction use is still in the developmental stage.
This article looks at the changing sealants market and presents a brief history of the growth of MS sealants in the Japanese construction sealants market. It highlights the chemistry of silyl-terminated polyether and provides comparative test results for MS sealants and other leading sealants. It also assesses the significance of these test results for a construction sealant segment that requires well-balanced properties, product effectiveness and environmental friendliness. |
