Matériaux poreuxIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Formaldehyde release tests of leather with porous structures were carried out according to ISO 17226-3 standard-sealed jar method. Effects of temperature on the release behaviour were investigated. The formaldehyde emission model in sealed system was established according to the law of mass transfer under several reasonable assumptions and verified by the fitting of actual release data.
The results showed that formaldehyde emission could be divided into three stages : the linear free release, barrier release and chemical release stages. The linear release .time inversely correlated with mass transfer coefficient of leather. The temperature had a significant promotion impact on release during linear release time. The higher the temperature was, the faster the formaldehyde release. Different types of leather showed different release characteristics because of porosity. The average release speed for sheepskin was faster than that of cowhide at the same temperature. However, with the increase of temperature, the increase in the rate of release speed of cowhide was greater. From 30°C to 60°C, the speed for sheepskin increased 19.39% for every increase of 1 degree Celsius by average, and that of cowhide increased 29.92%.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL SECTION : Materials - Pretreatment of leather samples - Procedure for the determination of formaldehyde emission by the HPLC method - Determination of porosity of leather by carbon tetrachloride permeation method - SEM observation - Effect of temperature on release behaviour - Release kinetics of leather

The optimal recipes of the dispersion systems, applied as polymer matrix precursors, were determined on the basis of factorial experiments, designed as 22 with additional ‘star’ experimental points to obtain greater accuracy in the resulting regression equations. The siloxane cage formation was based on the following crosslinking reactions of functional polysiloxanes: (1) hydrosilylation of vinyl groups; (2) condensation of silanol groups. Moreover, the molecular modeling, using P3 semi-empirical methods, was applied to build the model structure of a siloxane-containing polymer matrix. The surface properties of these coatings were studied using wettability assessments (dynamic contact angle and surface-free energy evaluation), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and X-ray electron microscopy (ESCA-XPS). The morphology, roughness, and structural regularity are discussed to illustrate the effects of the organic component on the surface properties. The most significant changes were observed in the surface morphology of the coatings. The application properties of such coating materials for the protection of buildings were tested, based on studies of their water vapor permeability, water absorption, and weathering resistance (freezing/thawing, salt-saturated aqueous sodium sulfate solution). The effect of the chemical structure of the siloxane-containing polymer matrix on the properties of the resulting coatings was focused on the protection of porous building materials. A very good correlation of the application properties of these coating materials and their surface properties, such as high dynamic contact angle (DCA), low surface-free energy (SFE) and surface morphology, was observed and is discussed. Fluides non newtoniens
Matériaux poreux
RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model has been developed to predict the penetration depth of a non-Newtonian fluid as it is directly coated onto porous media by a slot die coating process. The model couples 1-D modified Blake–Kozeny equations and Navier–Stokes equations. Experiments of coating a non-Newtonian solution (black strap molasses) onto carbon paper (Toray 090) are conducted and the penetration depths are measured to validate the model. Preliminary results show that predicted and measured penetration depths follow the same trend; that is, as the coating speed increases the penetration depth decreases. However, the simulated penetration depths are found to be one to two times higher than measured values at low coating speeds. Even so, the results are considered reasonable, due to imposed simplifications and approximations of the CFD model and errors associated with the experiments and measurements.
