The key factors that determine the quality of a spray-coated layer are the size (order of a few microns in diameter) and dimensional uniformity of droplets in the spray and the droplet impact velocity. For many applications, coating quality is strongly dependent on the method and equipment used during the application process. This paper presents the development of a decoupled system for spray coating and micro-printing, which includes an ultrasonic spray generation device and a nozzle for the spray deposition independently operated. Design and development of the system as well as testing for different applications are presented in this paper. The system design can be potentially used for large area coating, such as windows and solar panels, as well as micro-printing of electronic circuits and numerous other applications. Although numerous non-destructive procedures for material characterization have been developed, most of them only detect macroscopic flaws such as foreign inclusions or cracks. By means of ultrasonics, aging of polymers at the molecular level is also detectable non-destructively. Note de contenu : - Experimental aging investigations with PA6

Note de contenu : - CARACTERISATION ULTRASONORE DE FLUIDES VISQUEUX : Configuration - Théorie

UltrasonsIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Polychlorinated alkanes (PCA) are organic compounds of general formula C2H(2x+2-y)Cly. PCA are extremely complex industrial mixtures of randomly chlorinated petroleum distillate. They are made of several thousands structural isomers. The short chain isomers (sPCA) have a carbon number between 10 and 13. All PCAs have a high environmental persistence and accumulate in the biosphere. They were included in all regulatory programs implying reliable methods for their determination in various samples. The content of sPCA is regulated in leather. The objective of this study was to develop a reliable and sensitive analytical method to determine and to quantify sPCA in real-world leather samples. The protocol started by an ultrasound-assisted hexane extraction of the ground leather sample. The extract was purified by filtration on a Florisil® (magnesium silicate) column with hexane/dichloromethane 9/1 v/v eluant. The concentrated extract was redissolved in 5 mL isooctane for analysis with a gas chromatograph coupled with a mass spectrometer in the electron capture negative ionization mode. The method was validated and used with real-world samples giving a reliable limit of quantification of 2 mg/kg +/- 0.2 mg/kg for the sPCA family. Vibrations (mécanique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Spray coating is a commercial and low-cost technique for the fabrication of large-area coatings and thin films, but it is a stochastic process that is hard to control, as far as the fabrication of thin coatings and solid films is concerned. On the other hand, drop-casting is a facile and more controllable coating technique than spray coating, but its application is limited to small-area thin solid films and coatings. The objective of this work is, therefore, to study the feasibility of impinging an array of droplets, rather than just one droplet, to fabricate polymeric and other solution-processed thin films with larger surface areas than those produced by conventional drop-casting. To this end, in this study, four droplets of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)–polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) solution are released simultaneously and impinged on the four vertices of a square on a wettable solid surface to make a thin film. The effect of the substrate texture on the spreading and the film formation process is studied. As a novel idea, the substrate is excited by ultrasonic vibration to improve the droplet spreading and coalescence. It is shown that as time elapses, the impinged droplets successfully coalesce and make a thin film. Surface morphology and roughness of the resulting PEDOT:PSS thin solid films show that, except on the edges, the resulting thin solid films are uniform. This leads us to conclude that the application of equal-sized and equally-spaced multiple droplets released simultaneously and impinged on vibrating substrates could be considered as a new coating technique, which has some of the benefits of the spray coating, but it is much more controllable than spray coating.
