RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : Most people have not understood Rheology correctly and hence are not aware of the importance of this property in paints. For coating materials that are best represented by paint, it is crucial to execute rheological adjustrnent according to the paint application or coating method. Thickeners - also commonly known as rheology modifiers or rheology control additives - control the rheological properties of the coating material to prevent sagging during paint application, adjust application thickness, facilitate painting, improve levelling, and prevent sedimentation of the filler, among other functions. RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : While understanding the rheology of any formulation, clarity around the core fundamentals enables efficient management of the rheological properties of your product. Let us begin by understanding some fundamentals terms. What is viscosity ? Viscosity and rheology are often confused, and they are significantly different concepts. While rheology is the study of flow, viscosity, a part of rheology, can be obtained from rheological measurements. Viscosity is a measurement of the fluid's resistance to flow and a function of shear rate or stress, with time and temperature dependence. In rheological measurements, the strain rate is related to the measurement of the deformation and stress is related to the measurement of the for required to deform a material. Shear stress (τ; Pa), one of the main parameters studied in rheology, is the force per unit area that a fluid requires to start flowing. Shear rate (γ; s-1) describes the velocity gradient. It is the rate at which a fluid is sheared or "worked" during flow. Note de contenu : - Pseudo-plasticity

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The orientation of the metal flake pigments, e.g., aluminium pigments, is playing a major role to achieve the optimum optical properties in the formulation of metallic coatings.
The commercially used metallic pigments are shaped differently and differ in their properties. Leafing pigments orient themselves in the wet film directly to the surface. Such pigments create a very metal-like surface appearance of the final coating, which is, however, often less wash or scratch resistant. Leafing pigments typically find application in aerosol coatings and inks. Non-leafing pigments spread honnogeneously through the film after application. This causes better effective protection in the case of chemical or scratch attack. This type of metal pigment can generate unique effects, especially with other types of pigments, such as pearlescent pigments. The main applications are automotive, plastic and general industrial coatings.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : Mechanism of metallic pigment orientation
