Spreng, which is indegenous to South-east Asia, are a natural source of carotenoids, particularly β-carotène and lycopene. However, carotenoids are susceptible to isomerization and oxidation during processing and storage. The objective of this study was therefore to obtain the carotenoid-containing aril oil stabilized in a novel cream preparation by developing aril oil-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers. Aril oil-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers were prepared by modified high pressure homogenization and the particle size, size distribution and zeta potential determined after 90 days at three different storage temperatures. Aril oil was encapsulated in the nanostructured lipie carriers in a concentration of 1 % and the formulations subjected to accelerated stability testing. HPLC analyses were performed to determine the β-carotène content of the aril oil-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers and other cream formulations. After application of the creams, the primary skin irritation was assessed by visual scoring, while wrinkle reduction was determined by skin profile analysis on the basis of the roughness (Ra and Rz), surface and volume parameters. The results showed that the cream containing 1% aril oil incorporated into nanostructured lipid carriers was more stable than the cream containing unloaded nanostructured lipid carriers. The physical characteristics of the cream base, the cream containing nanostructured lipid carriers were good after storage at various temperatures. Skin irritation tests revealed no irritation in normal volunteers with any of the formulations. However, the cream containing aril oil-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers exhibited a significantly higher capacity to reduce wrinkles than the cream containing aril oil alone Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13668
