TatouageIndex. décimale : 667.4 Encres Résumé : Body artists in Europe may have to reconsider the pigments that they use in future, with the European Union (EU) drafting new rules that could regulate what chemicals can be used in tattoo inks. While today 12 out of every 100 Europeans are tattooed or have some sort of permanent cosmetic treatment, experts are increasingly concerned that these skin colouring agents may contain hazardous substances, known or suspected to have adverse health effects causing cancer, allergies or mutations. As a result, the EU executive, the European Commission has asked the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to investigate, evaluating whether EU consumers' health is actually under risk from tattoo insk and advising on whether EU legislation is necessary. "The EU is not (considering) banning tattoo inks or tattooing but aims to ensure that all substances present in tattoo inks are safe for citizens", a Commission spokesperson underlined. ProductionIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Many industrial sectors are focusing increasingly on the additive manufacturing of components made of metal or polymers. Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) constitutes an important process for the 3D printing of polymers. Fine polymer powders are sintered, thereby, in a powder bed by means of laser to form three-dimensional objects. This printing process, however, calls for polymer powders with a particle size of around d90. 100pm. Among other methods, cryogenic comminution is applied for the production of such fine powders. In this case, polymer granules are embrittled by means of liquid nitrogen (LN2) and then ground in a pin mill. The specific consumption of liquid nitrogen is a major cost factor. Hosokawa Alpine AG offers solutions to reduce the specific consumption. Assuming an efficient classifier and mill in circuit, the product specifications can also be guaranteed and the operating costs mininnised. RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author reports on smart coatings that act as sensors allowing interaction between people and machines.
Smart coatings are being applied to objects, ranging from fabrics to walls, pipelines and medical devices, to act as sensors and facilitate interaction between people and machines - and potentially save huge sums of money in repairs bills.
These technologies are developing fast and offer functionality that extends way beyond smart coatings that can detect cracks, scratches and abrasions and heal themselves - as useful as those qualities are.Note de contenu : - Smart clothing

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : One of the cost-effective ways to significantly influence the coating formation process and the performance of polyester coatings is to use a cross-linking agent containing an isocyanate. Methylated melamine-formaldehyde with a high degree of alkylation (HMMM) and methyl ethyl ketoxime-blocked hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) were used for polyester resin cross-linking. The influence of cross-lin king agents on coating performance and characteristics was studied using Small Amplitude Oscillatory Shear Rheomenty (SAOS), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) techniques. The cross-linking degree of the polyester system containing the mixture of HMMM and HDI was shown to be significantly lower than that of the systems where only one of the cross-linking agents was used. High loss modulus values G" in the system with HMMM as compared to the system with HDI can be explained by a less dense three-dimensional network structure. With the decrease of HMMM and HDI the formation of three-dimensional network starts at a higher temperature. At the same time, when only the hardener content is reduced it leads to the decrease of the cross-linking degree. Note de contenu : - Table 1 : System ingredients

Polymères en émulsionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Acrylate latex is widely used in coating film forming agents, textile printing and dyeing adhesives, daily chemical products, medical polymers etc. However, the drawbacks of the acytate, such as poor water resistance, easy brittleness at low temperature and losing adhesion at high temperature have limited its further application. Thus, it is necessary to modify the latex to widen its application. Nowadays, more and more attention has been focused on nanometre-acrylate composite materials, such as silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, alumina, zinc oxide etc, which have been used in emulsion polymerisation to improve the properties of acrylate latex because of the particular properties of the nanometer materials. In this paper, the modification of acrylate latex with nanometer materials is reviewed in detail, which can bring some inspiration to modification of the acrylate latex.
