For the last few years, the reduction of polluting components in paints has become an issue of increasing importance, due to the fact public opinion shows a tendency towards the conservation of nature and its environment. This increasing environmental concern has led to more legal restrictions, to reduce organic solvent emissions in paints. Hence, organic solvents, as the most important Polluting component, need to be replaced. But the replacement of solvents by water in emulsion paints causes loss in gloss, agglomeration of pigment and extender particles.
In the present study clay (extender) was encapsulated by different polymers and used as an extender in 2EHA-MMA based emulsion paint. Different properties of emulsion paints are studied with respect to non encapsulated clay containing an emulsion paint. |
