Also called intelligent protections, they offer many other advantages than just UV protection and are adapted to the consumers' urban, leisure and extreme lifestyle conditions. At the same time, the high SPF formulations bring new challenges in terms of product protection because of the high oil content of the formulations. Indeed, conventional preservatives are under constant scrutiny and formulators need to be increasingly creative by incorporating innovative product protection molecules in their formulations to limit the proliferation of microbial contaminants. Phenoxyethanol, benzyl alcohol, hydroxacetophenone, pentylene glycol and caprylyl glycol are some of the important ingredients in the toolbox for the formulators to support them for this purpose. Phenoxyethanol and benzyl alcohol are two commonly used preservatives in cosmetics. In sun care products, hydroxyacetophenone contributes to the antioxidant properties of the formulations and 1,2-alkanediols such as pentylene glycol and caprylyl glycol act as moisturizers while improving the aesthetics of the formulations. At the correct dosage, these versatile ingredients play a key rote in modern product protection. Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Molecules used for modern protection

Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Study of NIR transmittance has confirmed that TiO2 is the very effective IR attenuating material, and the optimal size is around 1 micron. Solid micron sized TiO2 particles, especially with an acicular shape, have the highest efficacy. They were able to block not only the NIR that can penetrate deep into the skin but also IR rays with longer wavelength that is responsible for thermal impact. Heat protection effect increased with the increasing use level of these Ti02 but reached a plateau at about 5 %, a level that shows little whitening on fair and dark skin tones. The merits of these IR attenuating TiO2 powders make them suitable for use in both skin care formulations and color cosmetics to prevent or reduce the harmful biological effects caused by IR exposure. Sous-traitanceIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : To ensure the adequate microbiological quality and safety of cosmetic products, it is necessary to perform a number of microbiological tasks, which should be combined in a quality management system (microbiological quality management [MQM]) to reliably achieve the targets. If the tasks cannot be performed by the manufacturers' own qualified personnel, they can be delegated to an external partner. The microbiological tasks may require laboratory facilities (e.g., examination for microbiological purity) or they may just be performed by persons with a professional expertise (e.g., microbiological safety assessment). The responsibilities for subcontracting activities lie with the principal as well as the contractor and are described in the text. Despite subcontracting certain tasks, the overall responsibility for the product remains with the principal, who accordingly has particular responsibility to ensure that all required microbiological tasks are performed effectively and to the requirement. Given the importance of an MQM System to reliably achieve the microbiological targets, the principal must establish and maintain such system that also ensures adequate communication and involves the external partner in essential processes. The external partner must guarantee that microbiological tasks are performed professionally. The results must be presented in a complete and independent way, and any risks detected should be reported. Note de contenu : - Microbiological requirements

DétergentsIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : MMB is a unique and useful fine chemical produced by Kuraray. It is a clear, colorless and completely water-soluble liquid with a mild odor. Due to its high flash point, it is not classified as a flammable chemical under the present EU chemicals regulations. Owing to its low toxicity and readily biodegradabilty it offers a wide range of interesting applications. Note de contenu : - Characteristics

The lecture topics reported on actual trends and drivers in the European household laundry and care market, on performance testings of machine and hand dish detergents, on an update on disinfectants under the BPR options and of the revision of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Current issues in laundry hygiene at low washing temperatures and the occurrence of B-lactamases in washing machines as well as of microbial loads in food-associated appliances were discussed. By means of a model for a smelly washing machine, the appearance of malodor in washing machines can be simulated, so that by microbiota analysis a strain selection and identification of fungi and bacteria becomes possible.
