Résumé : |
When spent chrome liquor is recycled to the tanning bath, it must be supplemented with additional chrome to bring its concentration uo to that required for tanning. After an increase of 20 to 70 percent from the level of the first-run spent liquor, the ions of sodium, sulfate, and magnesium in the spent liquor reach equilibrium in the first three or four runs of tanning. These findings agree with results previously reported. The authors have made it clear by cation exchange chromatography, paper electrophoresis, and gel filtration, that recycling the spent chrome liquor does not essentially affect its chrome complex composition. However, they conclude that the recycling of self-basifying chrome agent requires more careful control of the tanning process, because its chrome complex composition alters rapidly with time after dissolution and because the hide is highly selective in its sorption of the chrome during tanning. |
