As an extension of the functionality of the microwave ovens currently in use for moisture determinations, a reasonably quick microwave method of analysis for salt content of cured hide samples has been developed. In addition to its use for sample preparation, the microwave oven can also be used to determine salt content quickly and easily by means of a very inexpensive and dependable instrument, the Dicromat Salt Analyzer. Sufficient data are not yet available to make a statistical evaluation of the analytical values obtained by this new method as opposed to the more traditional muffle furnace ashing method, but on individual samples the results appear to be very closely correlated. |
