Résumé : |
How bismuth vanadates, covering the green shade yellow spectrum, are gaining importance on the market to produce lead-free, durable exterior powder coatings.
The introduction of one of the non-toxic alternative crosslinking agents trimellictic acid triglycidylester (Araldite PT 912 - hunstman) to replace TGIC in polyester powder has triggered a technical problem as regards to the use of bismuth vanadates.
If such a system is pigmented with classical bismuth vanadates, the film properties of the thermosetting powder coating cross-linked with Araldite PT 912 start to get impaired at elevated baking temperatures above 200°C and extended baking time.
This presentation will deal with facts about the performance of bismuth vanadates in a polyester/araldite PT 912 system, their physical and chemical characteristics, surface-modifications in order to highlight the need of designing and developing a suitable, new generation of pigments with no impact on crosslinking density while over-baking. |
