A new? OH-functional silicone modified acrylate additive will be introduce to enhance the surface cleaning properties (cleanability) of coatings. Crosslinkable via OH-groups, the additive provides long lasting significant improvements in cleanability so that adhering dust and dirt particles as well as graffiti can be removed much easier compared to 'normal' surfaces. Results in various types of coatings (two-pack polyuethanes, thermoset melamine topcoats, and so on) will be presented. Present and potential new applications for silicone modified crosslinkable acrylates in various types of coatings will be highlighted. Note de contenu : - Test results

Their rheological impact in various coating systems is directly related to the specific chemical modifications that can be made to the polyurea molecule. Modifications evaluated were made using the end groups of varying polarities such as low polarity alkyl groups, medium polarity segments, or highly polar structures. These additives result in coatings with exceptional resistance to settling during storage, along with good sag resistance. The latest addition to the existing low and medium polarity modifications is a highly polar product, suitable for aqueous systems. Typical effects and properties of the new additive will be highlighted. The advantages for coating producers and users will be shown using several practical application examples compared with conventional rheological additives. Its dispersing effect can be explained by interfacial activity and anchoring to pigment surfaces resulting in good stabilization of all pigments in emulsions, solutions and hybrid aqeous coatings.
Anti-floating and pigment dispersion results, compared to results with conventional additives, are encountered in various aqueous coatings formulations. Formulations containing the polymeric wetting and dispersing additive displays a very high degree of pigment stabilization and good compatibility with several resin types. Results with various grinding methods are being discussed. Recommendations for practical coatings applications are being provided along with detailed information on advantages, usage areas and side effects.Note de contenu : - Characteristics of the novel wetting and dispersing additive

Toucher softIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : A high molecular weight natural polyester-type biopolymer, based on renewable resources and produced in a fermentation process, can be used in various types of coatings for gloss reduction. Matting results in aqueous, solvent-borne and 100% solids radiation-curing coating, wood and low-bake industrial coating formulations are highlighted in comparison to silica- and wax-based matting additives.
The new matting technology provides effective gloss reduction in many systems, without significantly increasing the viscosity, and without adversely impacting levelling, transparency and air release characteristics. Spin-off benefits include the improvement of the scratch- and abrasion-resistance and soft-touch properties of the coating film, together with a pronounced anti-slip effect. The new matting agent is also completely biodegradable.Note de contenu : - NATURAL POLYMERS FOR MATTING OF COATINGS

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A new liquid rheology additive based on a modified urea was developed to solve rheology problems in solvent-based and solvent-free coatings. Its thickening mechanism can be explained by selective insolubility of the modified urea, which results in a controlled separation of fine, needle-like particles demonstrating strong cohesive interactions. The final result of such interactions is a three-dimensional network which improves the rheological properties. Anti-settling and sag control results, compared to results with conventional additives, will be presented in coatings formulations with various polarities. Formulations containing the modified urea thickener displayed very intense shear-thinning effects and high thixotropy levels. Results with various incorporation methods will be discussed. Recommendations for practical coatings applications will be provided along with detailed information about advantages, usage areas and side-effects. Note de contenu : - Chemistry and method of action
