ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The potentiel of L-Lactide-modified alkyd resins to formulate lower VOC coatings with a reduced carbon footprint.
Sustainability continues to be a major trend in the paint and coatings industry. Government regulations, in particular, have been a key driver for change as the sector finds itself under increasing pressure to comply with ever more stringent environmental controls. In the USA, the Environmental Protection Agency has established clear guidance relating to emissions.
Meanwhile, the paint industry in China has recently undergone a significant step change with the introduction of an Environmental Protection Law in February 2015. The legislation is aimed at improving air quality across the country via the establishment of emission standards and has a direct impact on the coatings industry.
While government regulations and sustainability targets play a significant role, self-accountability and consumer preferences for bio-based alternatives have also become important drivers for rapid change. Besides meeting legislative requirements, industry players are reailsing that a reduced environmental footprint translates to a competitive advantage.
As such, there is pressure on oil members of the coatings value chain to focus on sustainability and the improvement of environmental performance ; from reducing water and energy consumption and lowering emissions during the production process ; to using more environmentally friendly raw materials, eliminating toxicity and increasing functionality. Bio-based technologies are coming to the fore as a result, with new research highlighting the potentiel of L-Lactide-modified alkyd resins to formulate lower VOC coatings with a reduced carbon footprint.Note de contenu : - Defining VOCs

Mesure -- InstrumentsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : How tolerances for both colour and gloss have tightened over the years and illustrates how two into one will go, by combining accuracy, ease of use and functionality changes in appearance.
Material tests are often performed under extreme weather conditions. Paint manufacturers have to perform weathering studies on panels or parts in the desert. In order to objectively determine changes in appearance, colour and gloss need to be measured during the exposure time.
Portable measuring devices allow performing the test outside at the test areas saving a lot of time as the parts don't need to be carried back to the test lab. The spectro-guide gloss gives reliable measurement results according to international specifications. A patented temperature control guarantees highly stable results. Thus, it is no longer necessary to re-calibrate the instrument every eight hours ; the spectro-guide gloss only needs to be re-calibrated every three months - even when the temperature changes. To avoid any user influence the innovative LED technology detects amblent light during the measurement. The data are corrected or a message is displayed to make the user aware of an invalid reading.
Due to an optimised power management and the fact that LEDs only consume a minute amount of energy the spectro-guide gloss uses standard alkaline batteries lasting for up to 8000 readings. This innovative technology also allows using less mechanical components. Therefore, the spectro-guide could be really designed as a portable, light weight and, at the same time, robust instrument. To supply a full description of the appearance of a surface and to precisely analyse the reason for a visuel mismatch, it is necessary to determine bath surface properties: colour and gloss.Note de contenu : - Gloss

Modified alkyd emulsions provide effective application properties for stain blocking wall paints.
Due to modern ecological and employment protection guidelines, solvent-based paints became more and more under pressure and already have strict legal requirements in certain countries. In the European Community eg the approved volatile organic compounds, VOC, content is limited for several types of deco paints in which the term volatile organic substances includes all solvents with a boiling point below 250°C at standard pressure. Interior wall paints, for example, have an upper limit of 30g/lit resp 100g/lit, depending on the gloss level. According to those requirements, the legal Omit values can only be fulfilled with water-based systems. But even without legislation water-based systems have big advantages in comparison to solvent-based types as they provide a lower smell level and are non-inflammable.Note de contenu : - Stain-blocking properties

(Wikipedia)

Waterborne UV-curable coatings — Eco-Friendly coatings — have been developed to replace conventional UV curable coatings with VOC emissions. The challenges of waterborne UV curable coatings have two aspects. One is that discolouration may occur when resins are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light from natural sunlight. Waterborne UV-curable light stabilisers are applied to the surface for protection. The other challenge is caused yellowing during the curing process. This problem will affect the customer's product quality and, therefore, increase product costs.
A novel light stabiliser (NLS) was developed specifically for waterborne UV curable coatings to reduce yellowing during curing process. The Design of Experiment (DOE) was used in this study. Test data showed that the NLS in a waterborne clear UV curable coating would net have negative impacts to cure speed. The results confirmed that by increasing the concentration of NLS in the top coat can effectively reduce yellowing during the curing process. Furthermore, data also showed that by increasing the coating thickness, the yellowing during the curing process cannot be improved to any appreciable degree.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENT : Optimal results - Novel light stabiliser effect (NLS) - Dry film thickness effects (DFT) - The optimal prediction profiler - Response surface methodology (RSM) - Minimal energy to reach curing tests - Reducing yellowing during curing process test En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DSfW18YXEX2QdubjmspCgv5MaHEQhift/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27111
