Amino-methyl-propanol (AMPTM) has a well established history of providing key multifunctional benefits to paint formulations including neutralising and dispersion properties, but is classified as a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) in Europe under these regulations on the limitation of emissions of VOC in certain paints, varnishes and vehicle refinishing products. The interest of the coating formulator for a non-VOC amino alcohol has led to the introduction of an optimized version of amino-ethyl-propanediol (AEPDTM) adapted for coatings market. This amino alcohol is a primary amine with improved color and odor properties, low vapour pressure, a high boiling point, a non yellowing characteristic and is classified as VOC-free in Europe. Additionally, this new version of AEPDTM offers the same excellent performance benefits as AMPTM in terms of co-dispersion efficiency, neutralisation, scrub resistance and colour stability with the added benefit of an improved odour profile, making it a clear choice as a multifunctional amine for EU VOC-free paints. Although similar in structure to AMPTM, an additional hydroxyl function in AEPDTM allows for an extension in the open time without impairing the scrub resistance. Additionally, AEPD has been show to have significant coalescent properties allowing for a reduction in primary coalescent levels and other VOC materials. Note de contenu : - Dispersing efficiency
