RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nano technology is more than a process that simply miniaturizes micro-technology. "Nano" stands for a promising form of basic and interdisciplinary technologies. It combines physical technologies, chemical materials sciences and biological principles with application-driven engineering. Scientists take molecular-theoretical ideas and use them as concepts for functional nanostructures that can be manufactured through the selective manipulation of molecules and atoms. The innovative potential for new materials, which make new applications possible while lowering materials costs, turns nanotechnology into an interdisciplinary technology of the future. The paint industries are exploring the potential uses of this technology in research with the ultimate objective of creating superior nano based paints. SilanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The coating on metal substrate enhances protection against corrosion and aesthetic value. Generally multi coat system is followed to perform these requirements. To reduce the painting cost, painting cycle as well as volatile organic compound emission, high solid coating in single coat is most promising. Use of hyperbranched alkyd is a suitable approach for this purpose as it form high solid, high build up in a single coat, better levelling and adhesion on any substrates. In the present study, to achieve adhesion on multi substrate, different silane coupled hyperbranched alkyd polyurethane have been synthesised and characterised through different analytical techniques. The coating based on silane modified hyperbranched polymer exhibited excellent anti corrosive performance, adhesion on multi substrate and initial gloss and gloss retention under accelerated weathering. Such silane modified hyperbranched polyurethane coating has potential for application in direct to metal (DTM) coating. TaninsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The annual cost of corrosion globally exceeds 1.8 trillion US dollars, which translates into 3-4 % of the GDP of industrialised nations worldwide. Over the past decade there has been significant progress in the development of smart coatings. Smart coatings require triggers to respond to the environment. Such triggers can be moisture, pH, chloride ions concentration, mechanical damage, and temperature and redox activity. In the current work we report synthesis of silica encapsulated tannic acid based smart coatings and its rust preventive performance derived out of the same. Epoxy primer grey paint and epoxy novolac based tank liner paints prepared using silica encapsulated tannic acid (MNSTA) were applied over manually cleaned surface. Its triggering mechanism was analysed by exposing them to different acidic pH and subsequently exposed to salt spray testing. The same has been compared with normal salt spray behaviour. Pull off adhesion, cathodic disbondment were performed in addition to understand its overall anti-corrosive behaviour.
