Dunstone, Auteur Année de publication : 2000 Article en page(s) : p. 48-54 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : There are often two opposing views of Research & Development. One is that innovation translated into new and improved products is the key means by which a company can generate growth even in a low growth market such as coatings. The other view is that R&D is an expense and that 90% of this expense is unnecessery and sometimes technical self indulgence. Unfortunately for the latter view, it is difficult to know which 10% is necessary and studies seem to indicate strong benefits from R&D. Note de contenu : - Relating R&D to the market

Qualité totaleIndex. décimale : 658 Gestion des entreprises privées et publiques Résumé : Benchmarking has become a widely established business tool. In the coatings industry it is particularly valuable. While there are some benefits from scale of manufacturing, in general once batch sires have been maximised, capacity increases come from extra resources rather than larger scale resources. The value of benchmarking therefore is in assessing how well management is operating the resources and achieving high levels of customer service. In this article we shall discuss benchmarking for operating facilities such as manufacturing plants and distribution centres. There are many other issues such as the quality and size of sales forces. Some of these projects can lead to some surprising and radical conclusions in relation to both performance and sales and marketing strategy.
