Environmental testing was done on the cured alkyd emulsion paints, which included the OME-based corrosion inhibitor and a traditional anticorrosive pigment typically used for alkyd emulsion paints, over cold rolled steel (CRS) for 1000+hr in a 5% NaCI salt fog chamber. Adhesion of the cured paint films to the CRS substrate mas tested using direct and reverse impact testing and crosshatch adhesion. Both the environmental and adhesion test results indicated that there were significant improvements in the performance of the cured alkyd emulsion paints that had incorporated the OME corrosion inhibitor when used in conjunction with a traditional anticorrosive pigment. Improvements were also seen when using the organometallic ester corrosion inhibitor alone when directly compared to an alkyd emulsion paint that used a traditional anticorrosive pigment. The improved performance of the alkyd emulsion paint, when using an organometallic ester-based corrosion inhibitor, would allow the alkyd emulsion paints to equal that obtained when using solvent-based alkyd paints, thereby reducing the reliance on solvent-based paints for light industrial applications.

used in industrial coatings, particularly maintenance
and marine coatings. Over the past few years the amount of solvent used in these coatings has decreased significantly. This has affected the properties of the coatings and the application techniques. As the solids contents of industrial coatings increase the number of applications has decreased, which has provided cost savings for the customer. Lower solvent levels have also helped to meet tighter global emission regulations and the use of HAPS-free solvents allow some coatings manufacturers to daim 100% solids status.
Although the decrease of solvent has proved a benefit to manufacturers and customers, it has had a wide impact on the use of rheology modifiers and their ability to provide enough viscosity and sag resistance and also intercoat adhesion effects. In older solvent-rich formulations, the rheology agents would disperse easily, the solvent coating would wet out on the substrats and would adhere well.
In the current low solvent environment these obstacles have to be overcome.Note de contenu : - Organic rheological additives in high solids

Dispersions et suspensionsIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : This study proves that solutions of styrene maleic anhydride copolymers are effective dispersants for C5 and polyterpene resins and can lower the surfactant demand. XIRAN® styrene maleic anhydride copolymers with higher maleic anhydride content lead to increased grinding efficiency and lower particle size. The grinding efficiency increases and viscosity decreases when the molecular weight of the copolymer is lower. Aqueous sodium salts had a higher grinding efficiency than their ammonium counterparts, while higher pH resulted in smaller particle size. In addition, the blending of a higher maleic anhydride/low Mw copolymer with a lower maleic anhydride/high Mw provided the lowest viscosity systems. Styrene maleic anhydride copolymers are ideal for producing ready to use tackifier dispersions, which can be incorporated into water-based adhesives. Being a polymer, styrene maleic anhydride improves dispersion stability compared to traditional monomeric surfactants and is REACH exempt. Moreover, green the molecular structure of styrene maleic anhydride Polyscope Polymers believes that the resulting formulations have improved water resistance and there is less leaching compared to the ones made with traditional monomeric surfactants.
