Résumé : |
The European wood coatings market nowadays represents a volume of over 500 000t with an annual growth rate of about 3%. The furniture sub-segment is by far the largest with a share of 56%. Even though the furniture coatings market is quite mature, there is still potential for growth by means of technological innovations and focus on new application areas. As wood finishing lines continue to run at higher speeds, productivity is one of the key focus areas, combined with a desire to reduce energy costs and efficiently use the coating materials. Next to this, introducing specific functionality in the coating, such as improved scratch resistance, is being seen as an important evolution. Needless-to-say, these technical innovations have to comply with legislation (VOC, REACH).
In Europe, the main force behind market growth is waterborne technology. Different waterborne binders are currently available but acrylic dispersions are considered to be the most dominant. These binders are very diverse, ranging from conventional thermoplastic acrylic dispersion to self-crosslinking polymers with sophisticated particle morphologies. |
