A significant improvement in the state-of-the-art of waterborne resins for 2K isocyanate curing has been developed. The Novos resin developments are free of any co-solvents, offering formulation freedom in type and amount of co-solvents to tailor and balance specific properties such as BFFT, hardness and gloss. Application robustness has been improved by another step in maximising BFFT (up to 140µm) while improving the miscibility with economical hydrophobic isocyanates. The combination of these attributes facilitates the formulation of WB2K coatings very low VOC levels and high BFFTs that are suitable for topcoats, clear coats or even DTM one layer systems.Note de contenu : - POLYURETHANE CROSSLINKING

Vanadate de bismuthIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : How bismuth vanadates, covering the green shade yellow spectrum, are gaining importance on the market to produce lead-free, durable exterior powder coatings.
The introduction of one of the non-toxic alternative crosslinking agents trimellictic acid triglycidylester (Araldite PT 912 - hunstman) to replace TGIC in polyester powder has triggered a technical problem as regards to the use of bismuth vanadates.
If such a system is pigmented with classical bismuth vanadates, the film properties of the thermosetting powder coating cross-linked with Araldite PT 912 start to get impaired at elevated baking temperatures above 200°C and extended baking time.
This presentation will deal with facts about the performance of bismuth vanadates in a polyester/araldite PT 912 system, their physical and chemical characteristics, surface-modifications in order to highlight the need of designing and developing a suitable, new generation of pigments with no impact on crosslinking density while over-baking.Note de contenu : - VISUALISATION OF THE PROBLEM : Baking conditions

Silanes
Sulfate de baryumIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Silanisation of barium sulphate and titanium dioxide.
Fundamental lab work and results in the field of particle functionalisation are presented. The focus is on the silanisation of barium sulphate and titanium dioxide. It is important to verify the availability and reactivity of the organic group of the silanes. The potential of this new generation of particles was investigated using various powder coating systems to inhibit effects like blanching.
Surface functionalisation of inorganic particles on the base of barium sulphate and titanium dioxide with reactive silanes enables the formation of covalent bonds between the particle surface and the surrounding matrix. Such a connection prevents the penetration of water and subsequently the blanching.
This new generation of functionalised barium sulphate can also have a positive effect on properties such as mechanical strength, corrosion and chemical resistance.Note de contenu : - FUNCTIONALISATION OF PARTICLE SURFACES

Spectrométrie de masseIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : The isoline concept - based on simple geometric consideration and the knowledge about the real 3D disorientation distribution of effect pigment platelets - figures out sets of illumination angles φo and detection angles φd' where the internal angle of incidence γ on platelets having a fixed angle of disorientation δ is constant. Therefore, the number and the reflectivity of the pigments illuminated and detected the reflectivity of the pigments illuminated and detected under these conditions should always be the same. The isolines are independent of the type of effect pigment. This behaviour was proven by checking the spectral deviation and the colour differences on isolines measured by GCMS-4 for interference and metallic effect pigment coatings. Within the measurement accuracy limits and the assumptions made for deriving the theoretical isolines, the isoline concept was confirmed.
Further, a geometric-probabilistic model to calculate the overlay structure of platelet effect pigments was developed. Here the focus was taken on the dependence of the optical texture on the PMC, the particle diameter, the thickness and the orientation.Note de contenu : - The geometry of effect pigments and its impact on apperance
