In the present research work, acrylic microgel emulsions with hydroxyl functionality were developed by using multifunctional monomers i.e. ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). All these emulsions were characterised and compared with conventional hydroxyl functional acrylic emulsions (plain emulsions). Hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM) was used as an external crosslinker. These emulsions were further used for the development of low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) thermosetting high performance industrial coatings. The results show that the microgel has lots of promises for low VOC thermosetting industrial coatings. |
