Mesures physiquesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Area measurement is the basis on which leather is traded. The tanner bases his costing on the cost of the raw material, chemicals used, labour, effluent costs and overheads and profits or losses are determined by the area yield of the particular batch of leather. The customer buys the leather on the basis of the area measurement but the real value to him is the area he incorporates in the articles he sells plus the value (if any) of the off-cuts or unused leather. This paper considers the actuel measurement of the surface area, the pre-conditioning and the influence of conditions of transport and storage before eventual use. Area measurement itself is an empirical method and it is important to specify the conditions of measurement and to realise the influence the changes in conditions can have when eventually the leather is remeasured. Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A new type of amino resin nanocomposites (THPS-OMMT-MDFP) was synthesized from an amino resin (MDFP), tetra-hydroxymethyl phophonium sulfate (THPS) and modified montmorillonite (OMMT) by an intercalation compounding method. It was characterized by FT-IR, XRD and TG/DTG and applied to the preparation of flame-retardand hide powder and leather. The results of DSC, vertical burning test and the Oxygen Index (OI) showed that the flame-retardant hide powder showed a higher activation energy compared with hide powder and that the flame retardancy and thermostability of the flame-retardant leather had been remarkably improved. As a whole, the results demonstrated that this nanocomposite had good flame-retardant performance and could be widely used in leather. Wet-white (tannage)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Leather is a natural that can be used in different environments and often under agressive environmental conditions that may cause premature ageing. The most important factors influencing the degradation of leather are temperature, relative humidity and UV radiation. Leathers with chrome tannage and wet-white leathers were exposed to weathering effects using a climatic chamber in order to identify the most important variables affecting this weathering process and to check for interactions. Both a multilevel centralized factorial experimental design and an analysis of variance (ANOVA) have been employed as statistical tools for estimating the effects of the parameters. The hydrolytic degree and molecular weight distribution (MWD) of the hydrolysages were evaluated by the formaldehyde titration method, sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), tricine-SDS-PAGE and centrifugal ultrafiltration. It was found that the MWD of the as prepared collagen hydrolysates has a close correlation with the hydrolytic degree, and greatly depends on the enzyme employed. The low molecular weight (MW) collagen hydrolysates, with relatively high hydrolytic degree, were obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis using protease 1398, protease 2709, papain and alcalase. More than 60% (mass ratio) of the fractions in these four hydrolysates were in the molecular weight range of <10kDa. The use of protease 537 produced medium-MW collagen hydrolysages where 40% of the fractionswere of 10-30kDa. The high-MW collagen hydrolysages that include about 66% fractions with molecular weights higher than 20kDa were obtained by using pepsin, accompanied by the lowest hydrolytic degree. This research provides a potential approache for molecular weight and molecular weight distribution control collagen hydrolysates by enzymatic hydrolysis ot tannery skin wastes. Tannage au chromeIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Tannery effluent with high salinity can have a serious environmental impact. The pickling process that involves the use of sodium chloride and acids is one of the main origins of salt pollution. In this study, a non-pickling chrome tanning technology was developed. A macromolecular aliphatic aldehyde, PTA, was synthesized and employed to pre-tan bated pelt before chrome tanning go that the conventional pickling process was eliminated. It was found that PTA possesses moderate tanning property itself and favours the penetration of chrome, resulting in a chrome exhaustion of 90%. Meanwhile, the performance of leather was comparable to the conventionally processed leather in terms of hydrothermal stability and property evaluations. Tannage végétalIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The present work was caried out to improve Sudanese rural garad tanned crust leathers for production of semi-alum shoe upper leathers. The usual process sequence consists of stripping, bleaching, retannage with aluminium sulphate prepared solution, neutralization, dyeing, fatliquoring, drying and finishing. The physical and chemical characteristics of the leathers produced are compared with control leathers and standard physical properties and showed good agreement. The leathers produced are full, soft, flexible with high tensile strength. The stripped rural garad-tanned leathers were retanned with 2% Al203 ; giving a high shrinkage temperature of 101°C. The leathers produced are full, soft, flexible with high tensile strengh with good organoleptic and strength properties. This confirms that this type of retannage is a promising alternative to traditional chrome tanning. Therefore, a deep study of the finishing system is necessary to help the control of this step and bring innovation to the finishing process. Based on principles of dynamic light scattering (DLS) and zeta potential, the stability of a leather finishing system was investigated. Polyrethane and acrylic resin were used to prepare a single finishing system and wax emulsion, silicone oil and pigment paste were added to the single finishing system to make three binary finishing systems, then a ternary system was prepared by adding was emulsion and silicone oil to the single finishing system.
The particle size and zeta potential of the single, binary and ternary finishing systems were characterized using the zetasizer nano-ZS (Malvern Instruments Ltd., UK). The results showed that the stability of the finishing system was not affected with the addition of was emulsion and silicone oil, because the zeta potential was always greater than 30mv, however ; a significant decrease of zeta potential was observed due to the addition of pigment to the finishing system, which indicates a decrease of the finishing system's stability. The results provide a comprehensive and theoretical understanding of the interactions among materials in a finishing system.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTALE PROCEDURE : Materials - Preparationof samples for the test of particle size and zeta potential - Measurement of particle size distribution and zeta potential of finishing system
