Résumé : |
An ideal biocide for the preservation of all the surface coatings against microbial degradation, holds the key for the future business of architectural paints world wide. The most stringent specifications and conditions for the use of ecotoxic compounds, laid down by the regulatory authorities and the environment protection agencies of different countries, (western countries in particular), is bound to affect the free use of any new or existing biocides in architectural paints. In near future, India may also join them in restricting indiscriminate and inadequate use ofmany such toxic and environmentally unsafe biocides hitherto being used in paints as preservatives. Thus the architectural paint manufacturers in India should get on to the task of finding out a suitable replacement for the existing biocides through scientific evaluation under Indian climatic conditions. This will not only result in financial gains to the paint manufacturer through restricting losses during production, storage and replacements of fouled paint, but also, make the customer happy, that he is being served with long lasting and quality product. |
Note de contenu : |
- The ideal biocide : High activity against a wide range of microbes - Low water solubility - Stability against ultra violet radiations - pH stability - Low mammalian and ecotoxicity - Compatibility with wide range of paint types - No effect on drying properties or over coating - No effect on colour or colour retention - No effect on rheology - Cost effectiveness
- Paint preservation, the Indian scenario
- Biocides, the international profile
- Types of biocides
- Selection of biocide
- How much biocide is enough
- Failure of biocidal paint performance : In-can performance failure - In-field film performance failure |
