Résistance au chocsIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Process control in both automated and manual production of composites structures is essential to ensure that the "as-built" part is an accurate realization of the characteristics chosen by the part designer. Manufacturing variations from the nominal design can result in compromised part performance or even structural failure. The lack of efficient, near-real-time, quantitative reporting of part characteristics during part fabrication results in an uncertainty requiring overdesign, with corresponding extra material and weight. An in-process vision system that compares design model and as-built characteristics has been operated on a complex preform as well as hand laid prepreg material. The system and its operation are described along with results achieved in initial applications. In terms of process engineering, the biggest savings in mass production can be achieved by reducing cycle time to a minimum. Jacob has developed and tested new processes (FIT-Hybrid and SpriForm) which combines moulding, forming and joining processes in a single process step. The new process also achieves high-level functional integration, made possible thanks to the high degree of design flexibility of thermoplastic based, endless-fibre reinforced composites, as well as the utilisation of the excellent processing possibilities that these materials offer. The key benefit of the invention is, that in addition to the lightweight potential of the used materials, this process offers an extraordinary potential of lightweight due to the combination with structural design.
