Résumé : |
All structures made of concrete, steel and masonry undergo deterioration due to various elements present in the environment. The deterioration may occur due to weathering by wind, rain, frost, snow, sunlight or by the presence of environmental pollutants. The deterioration may also be caused by chemical, photochemical or biological interactions or on account of thermal and mechanical stresses. This paper covers various aspects related to protection of various residential, commercial and industrial structures by application of coatings. The article deals with the ways and means of protecting these structures from the ravages of environment by proper coating selection, surface preparation, and inspection of coating systems. Among the industrial structures, the focus is on fertilisers, petrochemicals and other chemical industries. |
