To PAINTINDIA this student readership is most valuable since these students are the future managers of paint units as the industry expands. It is in this background, the background of the student readership, that this article assumes significance since nowhere in the literature such a compilation on the topic is auailable. This paper covers various aspects related to protection of various residential, commercial and industrial structures by application of coatings. The article deals with the ways and means of protecting these structures from the ravages of environment by proper coating selection, surface preparation, and inspection of coating systems.
