Paint is a beautifully rather colourfully developed science. This science is developed not only in the direction of decoration or protection, but it fulfills both the requirements. The protective function of the paint varies with substrate and climatic conditions. Although silicones are popular for their heat resistant characteristic in the field of automotive paints, they are also used in masonry coatings as a very important ingredient. Silicone resins and various forms of silicones are used at different stages in masonry coatings. This review paper deals with the effect of silicones on masonry coating and how the performance of a paint is improved by using silicones as resin, water repellent, sealant, adhesive, etc. |
