The importance of measurement of colour quantitatively and comparison for matching of shades of the paint films is very well recognized in paint industry. Colour matching and colour formulation by sophisticated computer gas, in fact, revolutionised the paint manufacturing and application industries acrros the world. In the present article, various theoretical and practical aspects behind appearance of colour in chemical compounds have been presented. Quantification of colour has been discussed in three dimensions, viz. Hue, value and chroma in different colour systems, such as Munsell, CIE and ostwald. Colour comparison made by spectrophotometric methods has also been analysed. Colour difference measurement, shade matching and colour formulation by using sophisticated computer softwre have been elaborated in this article. |
