Most of the paints in usage are solvent based. These solvents are becoming a threat to environmental harmony. Several coatings have been developed to reduce VOC emission. UV curable coating is one such boon to paint industries, which not only reduces the VOC, but also increases the productivity. After decades of continuous development, radiation curing has evolved into a mature technology. Still developments are continuing in this field to upgrade it. This article reviews the basic raw materials, reaction mechanism, source of UV light, application techniques and usage, advantages and disadvantages of UV curable coatings. |
