Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Unsaturated polyesters were one of the earliest types of resins to be used in the UV curable coatings. The unsaturated polyesters used as radiation prepolymers are characterised by their low viscosity and relative economy compared to other prepolymers. It is possible to prepare unsaturated polyesters with controlled molecular weights, using monofunctional acid as chain terminator. Note de contenu : - Ingredients of polyester resins

Titre : Eco-friendly high performance coatings from vinyl ester resins Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Devendra Agarwal, Auteur ; Arun Maithani, Auteur Année de publication : 2002 Article en page(s) : p. 43-48 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Vinyl ester resins with varied acid values (12, 24,35, 40 and 49 mg KOH g-1 solid) were prepared by reacting an epoxy novolac resin with methacrylic acid. The coating samples were prepared by dissolving these ester resins in styrene as a reactive diluent (40% w/w). These solution coatings were cured using benzoyl peroxide as the initiator (2 phr). The curing conditions of the experimental coatings were determined by using the Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) system. The DSC scans were obtained under dynamic and isothermal conditions to choose a temperature and time for completion of the curing reaction (90 mts at ∼85øC). The coatings were applied on sandblasted steel sheet panels with the help of a film applicator for an approximate film thickness of about 100 microns. These panels were dipped into various chemicals for a period ofone year to check their chemical resistance. The mechanical and electrical properties of these coatings have also been determined. The thermal stability of these coating compositions were estimated by considering the onset degradation temperature in the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The coatings based on vinyl ester resin with minimum acid value was found to be the most thermally stable and having excellent mechanical, electrical and chemical resistance properties. Note de contenu : - Results and discussion : IR spectrum - Curing of samples - Thermal stability
- Chemical Resistance : Acild and alkali - Solvent resistance - Mechanical properties

Titre : Coatings for high temperature service environments Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : R. M. Agashe, Auteur Année de publication : 2002 Article en page(s) : p. 49-58 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Painting of surfaces which are exposed to an elevated temperature represents one of the most problematic and challenging applications for the coating engineers. The consequences of thermal deterioration are important in many applications, viz:, chemical and petrochemical process equipments, mining and gas production, missiles and aerospace applications, where temperature is very high and good thermal resistance is of prime importance. Heated surface on stacks, boilers, chimneys and similar equipment require the highest level of coating technology to withstand the corrosive fumes, cyclic heating operations, thermal expansion and atmospheric weathering. The article discusses the process of thermal degradation, types of binders and pigments commonly used for such coatings, methods of surface preparation, various test methods to determine the heat resistance performance and the new emerging trends. Note de contenu : - Thermal degradation process

Titre : Azo pigments for printing inks Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : N. Sekar, Auteur Année de publication : 2002 Article en page(s) : p. 61-64 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Azo colorants carry an azo functional group flanked by two sp2 hybridised carbon atoms. The azo functional group serves as a bridge for the flow of resonance between the donor and acceptor residues. Depending on the number of azo functions we have monoazo or disazor ortrisazo colorants. They are typically manufactured by a reaction sequence consisting of diazotisation of an aromatic amine and coupling on to a strongly nucleophilic aromatic and active methylene components. So when the starting aromatic amine (u, the diazo component) and coupling component are mentioned the structure of the azo colorant can be visualised. Diazocomponent-> coupling component represents the azo colorant the arrow stands for diazotised and coupled. For example CI pigments orange 5 can be represented as 2,4-dinitroaniline-> 2-naphtol. Note de contenu : - Classification of azo pigments and their shade range
- Monoazo yellow pigments - non-metallised
- Disazo yellow pigments - non-metallized
- Monoazo orange pigments - non metallized and metallised
- Disazo orange pigments non-metallised
- Monoazo red pigments : non-metallized
- Monoazo red pigments : metallized

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Today, pearl lustre pigments as one category of special effect pigments play an important role in colouring industries. These pigments with their lustre and interference effects are central to the generation of many new and unique effects when used in printing inks, plastics, cosmetic formulations and paints for automotive and industrial applications. The unique pearl lustre effect is produced by light reflection, interference and in some cases also absorption. Pearl lustre pigments enhance the appearance created by other colourants. Printing with these special effect pigments fulfills the highest aesthetic requirements. Today, many products are printed with them especially in cases when the article should reflect a touch of luxury and artistic style. Note de contenu : - Metal oxide mica effect pigments
