Peau -- Maladies chez les animauxIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Caprine demodecosis is causing great concern to the Indian leather trade as goatskins are considerably affected in quality by this defect. Demodectic mange mites were found to be lodged within subsurface nodules of the skin surrounded by dense fibrous tissue. In raw skin the nodules were bulged out on the flesh side only. The changes in appearance, variations in the number and distribution of nodules, and the effect on pelt and leather quality were studied af ter liming and after chrome or vegetable tanning for comparison with fresh skins. Histo¬pathological study revealed fibrous encapsulation around the nodules with no secondary bacterial infection. A few cases of the acute (squamous) form of demodecosis were noted in raw skin resembling sarcoptic mange infestation. Variations in number of nodules at different anatomical locations were significant. Amino acid composition of the skin in the affected area was compared with that in the unaffected area. The parasites are present in the tissue superimposed one over the other in single file, such that the limbs of the individual parasites are arranged in a linear fashion. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Cuirs et peaux -- Microbiologie Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : It is well known that hides and skins, the raw material for leather manufacture either as finished leather and/or as finished goods, earn a major percentage of foreign exchange to boost the Indian economy. The raw hide or skin if not property preserved is likely to undergo deterioration due to microorganisms.
Of late it has also become the concern of river authorities in many countries to reduce the level of dissolved solids such as salts in trade effluent. For this reason several investigators have made attempts both for the short and long-term preservation of hides and skins using biocides instead of salts. Such a method is likely to be more efficient since it interferes with the metabolism of bacteria and also may be more reliable than the conventional salt cure.
Several investigators have also worked on improving the conventional methods of curing hides and skins and also on their associated problems such as surface defects related to bacterial degradation.
The hide processor or the tanner must become well acquainted with such valuable information and scientific knowledge in order to produce a quality leather and to increase exports by delivering improved quality goods. DemodexDemodex (les démodex en français) est un genre d'acariens de la famille des Demodicidae. Certaines espèces font naturellement partie du microbiote cutané humain ou vivent associées aux cheveux, cils, sourcils.
Chez la vache, une espèce de Demodex peut s'insérer dans les follicules pileux, y former des cavités où il vit et se reproduit, en déclenchant une formation de nodules et de vives réactions inflammatoires.
L'infestation pathologique de la partie sous-jacente de la peau de bovins d'élevage par un Demodex est une maladie vétérinaire dite "démodécose" (ici en Afrique de l'Ouest).
Ici, ce sont les follicules pileux d'un singe qui sont colonisés par une espèce de Demodex (formes brunes irrégulières allongées visibles dans les cavités. Les cavités se forment dans les follicules pileux enflammés) ; photographie histologique en microscopie optique.
Il regroupe des acariens minuscules, très communs sur la peau de tous les mammifères, dont il est encore difficile de dire s’ils sont des parasites ou des symbiotes (contribuant à nettoyer la peau, notamment du sébum). Ils peuvent dans certaines conditions pulluler, souvent sans symptômes, et alors jouer un rôle dans certaines pathologies dermatologiques.
Ils vivent dans ou à proximité des follicules pileux des mammifères.

Evidence is put forward for infestation of the foetus with subsequent development after birth.
The evidence for the latter point conflicts with established knowledge and it may be claimed that the techniques used cannot demonstratec clinical infestation after birth.
