Pigments manufacturers have been challenged to increase the "green" profile of their products to meet the growing coatings market requirements. Inorganic pigments have been under high pressure for years, mostly as regards their heavy-metals content. In the early 2000s Nubiola Inorganic Pigments identified this environmental concern as an opportunity to offer a differentiated product portfolio of higher added value. To develop "ecofriendly" anticorrosive pigments and to upgrade the pigment performance of an "already-green" product as ultramarine blue, hardly used in coatings, were the targets. The successful results of all the work carried out since then are now in the market. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=9384

Solutions aqueuses (chimie) -- StabilitéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of polyurethane anionomer dispersions (PUD) was prepared from isophorone diisocyanate, polyester polyol and dimethylol propionic acid as a hydrophilic monomer. The principal polyols used were aromatic, aliphatic and cycloaliphatic type. The effect of polyol type was evaluated in terms of thermal, mechanical and physico-chemical properties of PUD samples. The results revealed that the chain flexibility affected particle-size. During phase inversion the dispersed phase can be more easily broken into smaller particles. The aromatic ring structure of dicarboxylic acid provided the PUD with rigidity which is manifested in high tensile strength, hardness and chemical resistance. However, such coatings suffer limitations with respect to low colloidal and thermal stabiltiy. The studies on film properties revealed that the polyurethane dispersion based on 1, 4 cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid exhibits better properties as compared to aromatic and aliphatic dicarboxylic acids. This will help indian paint companies to be ahead of their other asian counterparts in the race for consumer and environmentally friendly paints. This paper also demonstrates why the use of low odor paints not only makes painting a pleasure, but is more commercially viable in the long run compared to conventional interior paints.
