Other naturally available options such as protein extracted from flax seeds exhibit versatile application in various fields. Thus in this work, the flax seed protein which is found to be 84%, along with bees wax emulsion is explored for the first time as an Eco benign binder and as an alternative for casein based finish. The binders play very important role in leather finishing as it helps in binding the various constituents of finishing such as pigments, wax, and additives to the leather matrix. The prepared Eco benign binder formed a continuous film on the surface of the leather and improved the of physical properties and crack resistance of the leather. The FTIR and particle size analysis were carried out for the characterization of the Eco benign binder. The experimental leathers were tested for tensile strength, elongation at break, lastometer test, colour fastness and cold crack tests. The results of the said tests were satisfied and on par with control leathers.

However, some of its drawbacks make it a suitable choice for the manufacturing of nanocomposites to enhance its properties. Hydrophobicity and flame retardancy are two of the most crucial characteristics of a polymer nanocoating. Magnesium hydroxide (MH), with its ability to be produced in a multitude of morphologies and exceptional properties, especially in flame retardancy, has always attracted the interest of researchers. One of the best methods for synthesizing high-purity, controlled-size, and controlled-shape nanoparticles is the hydrothermal technique. In this paper, magnesium chloride and sodium hydroxide were utilized as raw materials to synthesize four different morphologies of MH, such as plate, flake, spherical, and disk, functionalized using 3-Aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES). In the following, PU nanocomposites were fabricated by drop casting method including 3 % w.t. of different synthesized MH. The influence of each morphology on different properties of PU/Mg(OH) was then investigated using different analyses such as spectroscopy, mechanical, and hydrophobicity tests. The observations indicated that different surface topography would result from the presence of nanoparticles with various morphologies on the nanocomposite’s surface. Extremely high water contact angles were attained as a result of the surface roughness, revealing the super hydrophobic behavior of the produced nanocoatings. Also, the presence of MH in PU matrix improved the mechanical properties of the nanocomposite, depending on the aspect ratio and particle size.: Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL METHODS AND MATERIALS : Nano-MH synthesis - PU/Mg(OH)2 fabrication - Characterization

The aging process of polyurethane-based coatings in salt spray test chamber was studied using the impedance sensor. Several critical indexes related to EIS such as phase angle (θ10Hz, θ15kHz), breakpoint frequency (fb), specific capacitance (C10Hz, C15kHz), and impedance modulus (Z0.1Hz) were proposed to evaluate the severity of coating degradation. The results indicated that the impedance sensor could accurately monitor the degradation process of coatings, and once Z0.1Hz < 106 Ω cm2, fb > 100 Hz, or θ10Hz < 20°, the coating may be regarded as completely degraded and fails to protect the metal substrate.

PLA successfully bridges the gap between synthetic and natural fibers and finds a wide range of uses, but despite their large market share, commercial PLA grades still do not fulfil all the mechanical and thermal requirements for some applications.
