Solutions aqueuses (chimie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Nowadays, the leather industry needs to produce a very wide range of finished articles with different levels of performance to increase their competitiveness while minimizing their environmental impact. To reduce the negative effects on the environment a strong shift from solvent to water-based recipes has taken place in leather finishing. However, most of the water-based high-performance articles require the addition of a cross-linker 1-5 to improve wet-fastness properties. The aim of the present work is to study the cross-linking reaction between an epoxy cross-linker and both acrylic binders and polyurethanes.
A comparison of results shows that epoxy resin improves wet rub fastness significantly. The cross-linking reaction evolves with time within 31 days storage. Moreover, different amounts of epoxy resin are required to obtain optimum values depending on the type of leather used on the physical characteristics of the binders employed.

The impact of the nano-composite on the thermal stability of collagen fibres was studied. Both the Kissinger and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa methods were used to process the thermo-gravimetric data (TGA) from hide powder and fire-retardant hide powder at different heating rates The results of the two methods showed that ther thermal degradation activation energy of hide powder was 155.47-157.35kJ.mol-1, and that of fire-retardant hide powder increased to 209.05-210.42kJ.mol-1, the char residual increased from 34,37 % to 45.47 %. The oxygen index of fire-retardant leather treated with the nano-composite increased significantly to 30.9 %. It was shown that the thermal stability and flame retardant property of collagen fibres and leather were improved significantly. As hygroscopic specimens take a very long time to reach equilibrium, testing times were shortened and kinetic models based on the experimental results were developed to calculate the adsorption at equilibrium, the time of half adsorption/desorption, the rate of half adsorption and the apparent coefficient of diffusion suggests that the rate of moisture adsorption is determined by the rate of diffusion inside the sample. Eaux usées -- EpurationIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Bacillus fusiformis was embedded in powdered activated carbon to prepare immobilized granules. Then, the immobilized granules were used to remove Cr(VI) in tannery wastewater at different pH, temperature and initial Cr(VI) concentrations to optimize the process. At the optimum condition, the Cr(VI) in tannery wastewater was treated with the granules with the powdered activated carbon and the Bacillus fusiformis as controls. After treatment, the Bacillus fusiformis in the granules was observed by SEM. The results showed that the removal of Cr(VI) by the immobilized Bacillus fusiformis in the granules was better than eigher using powdered activated carbon or Bacillus fusiformis alone. The SEM images showed that the Bacillus fusiformis in the granules were measured before and after 48 hours' treatment. It was found that both the Cr(VI) in the solution and the granules decreased, but the total chromium was unchanged, which indicated that removal of Cr(Vi) with the granules was mainly as the results of both the adsorption of activated carbon and the chromate reduction of Bacillus fusiformis. The kinetic data of Cr(VI) removed by the immobilized Bacillus fusiformis could be described by the pseudo-second-order rate model. The experiments demonstrated that the immobilized Bacillus fusiformis could be used as a new biomaterial to remove Cr(VI) in tannery wastewater. Breaking down the oxidation of unsaturated oil with hydroxybenzene [phenol] so as to prevent Cr(III) from oxidizing into Cr(VI) has been investigated.
In our previous work PVC sponge was used as a reactant carrier, taking advantage of the sponge's porous character similarly to that of leather. The oleic acid, chrome liquid and various phenols such as pyrocatechin, hydroquinone, gallic acid and pyrogallic-oleic acid were absorbed on to the sponge and then placed in a container at constant temperature and humidity to oxidize. The iodine value, peroxide value of oils and the contents of chrome(VI) were determined at regular intervals. The structural changes of oleic acid were analysed by IR.
The results showed that phenolic compounds had an inhibitory effect on the oxidation of oleic acid and so as to influence the oxidation of Cr(III) into Cr(VI) ; the greater the hydroxyl number of the single ring polyhydroxy phenol, the stronger the inhibitory effect on alpha-H oxidation, and the less formation of Cr(VI). When the hydroxyl numbers of the single ring polyhydroxy phenols were the same, the o-hydroxy phenol had stronger inhibition than p-hydroxy phenol ; meanwhile the structure change of olein acid indicated that Cr(VI) formation was mainly caused by hydroxyl radicals from a series of radical reactions derived from alpha-H autoxidation of oleic acid.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bYQvt56QHJMnuJOCuXGTdGF1c1LCg9uG/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=8309

Lime fleshings, one of those solid wastes, are a very important fat source although normally they are not used and are disposed off representing a high cost for tanners. A process to recover fat from such fleshings was developed, introducing a new value-adding route through the use of fat for biodiesel production. Biodiesel obtained from this fat material was characterized by parameters according to EN 14214 standard, showing good accordace in almost all of the evaluated specifications. However, we still needed to adjust the process in order to improve parameters, like moisture and ester content, that are close we still needed to adjust the process in order to improvve parameters, like moisture and ester content, that are c lose to the limits. An economic evaluation of the fat recovery and usage as raw material for biodiesel production was done, showing an economic potential when compared to vegetable oils. It was demonstrated that a fat selling price of 350 E/ton, with some margin for reduction, is possible. This price is better than the normal price of vegetable oils, which lies between 500 and 700 E/ton.
