Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Two derivatives of acrylamide, namely : N-hydroxymethylacrylamide and N,N'-(1,2-dihydroxyethylene)-bisacrylamide, were found to react rapidly and, at least in part, irreversibly with hide and skin collagen. As measured by shrinkage temperature, the two compounds effectively crosslinked the collagen and, with proper control, could serve as tanning agents. The reaction takes place under alkaline conditions but swelling of the protein was controlled by the addition of sodium sulfate to the reaction mixtures. Shrinkage temperatures of 85°C and higher were obtained. The products exhibited the required resistance to chemical and enzymic attack and, on a scale, were made into white or pale yellow leather, respectively. The results were compared to those obtained with formaldehyde and glyoxal. Tannage Résumé : The Michael Reaction has been used with an acrylic-acid derivative to provide additional carboxyl binding sites on collagen during processing of hides into leather. The crosslinked product had a higher shrinkage temperature and a considerably lower lysine and hydroxylysine content than conventionally processed hides. Subsequent tanning led to a higher chrome uptake than that found in the untreated control. The results indicated that both direct crosslinking and improved chrome tanning are possible with this derivative but that these are accompanied by some loss of tensile strength En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1B2RiLHhKURvVOJE4M_0wUHDk_BoPn5zo/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=8493

Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Two symmetrical derivatives of acrylamide, namely: N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide and N,N'-dimethylenebisacrylamide, were found to crosslink hide collagen and, with proper control of the reaction conditions, served as tanning agents. The reactions take place under alkaline conditions and swelling is controlled by addition of sodium sulfate. Shrinkage temperatures over 80°C were obtained and the products exhibited good resistance to chemical and enzymic attack. The products were made into white leather on a small scale. Two higher homologs, N,N'-trimethylenebisacrylamide and N,N'-hexamethylenebisacrylamide, could not be made to react under the same conditions nor under modified conditions designed to improve their solubility. Tannage Résumé : We have studied the crosslinking of collagen in sheepskin by treatment with N-hydroxysulfosuccinimide esters of dicarboxylic acids. The acylating agents are prepared from dicarboxylic acids including suberic (C-8), azelaic(C-9) and sebacic(C-10) acids. These agents are extremely soluble in water and react readily with sheepskin, resulting in increases in shrinkage temperatures before chrome tanning.A descrisption of the synthesis of acylating agents and a discussion of the physical properties of the resulting leathers are presented. Curing can be achieved by either ultraviolet or electron beam irradiation. In contrast to conventional methods, complete finish application is obtained rapidly, without the use of heating ovens, and with no air pollution. Patent leather produced by this process exhibits good gloss and flexibility and excellent abrasion resistance. Flexibility was affected by the type and amount of crosslinking agent incorporated into the coating as well as by the acrylated urethane oligomer used as the coating backbone. The effects of varying the formulation on final finish properties are discussed. Note de contenu : - TABLE I : Variation of gloss with coating thickness
