Résumé : |
The time evolution of different single-pigment mill bases was investigated measuring fineness with a conventional coating grind gage. We propose a simple two-parameter model for the description of a pigment dispersion into liquid vehicles as function of the grinding time. Although the whole process depends on a complex balance between grinding equipment, pigment and vehicle, it is possible to recognize a simple well-known pattern for the breakup of pigment particle agglomerates. This allows us to establish a quantitative criterion and a practical rule for the effectiveness of the dispersion operation without limitation regarding the quality or nature of the binder or wetting agents. |
