RetannageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Manufacturers or surface coatings, particularly white, have long relied upon the use of titanium dioxide as the prime pigment in their industry. In recent years two factors have combined to spur the search for an alternative material to replace titanium dioxide. These factors are, not too surprisingly, price and availability. Amongst a number of potential replacement materials a considerable development effort has been undertaken to produce a novel polymeric additive for this purpose. This development effort has resulted in a series of polymers that are significantly different from the "normal" emulsion polymers known up to now. This paper describes the basic characteristics of one such polymer. The polymer in question is principally used, at present, in retanning applications where it has found wider use than simply as a titanium replacement. Results of a comparative study are presented to demonstrate the advantages that application of this polymer have on the general characteristics of retanned leather. Tannage Résumé : A patented pretanning procedure enabling slitting and shaving prior to tanning and retanning has been covered in previous papers. A number of production trials have bben run in tanneries on several raw stocks to fine tune the process and make material adjustements in order to optimize shrinkage temperature and subsequent splitting and shaving of the pretanned stock. Process variables such as chrome charge in the primary tannage and auxiliary utilization are discussed in this paper together with the results of physical tests and chemical analyses. Titre : The characterisation of acrylic syntans for retanning chrome leather. part II effect of combining syntans Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Geoffrey J. Ward, Auteur Année de publication : 1987 Article en page(s) : p. 185-193 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The first part of this project, presented at the 1985 ALCA concention, consisted of basic studies. Those studies were conducted along purely practical lines. The results of that work, never-the-less,provided a foundation that enabled a relatively simple classification to be made ; e.g. tanning vs auxiliary.Evidence was also presented concerning the effects of each type of syntan in a retannage context. It was also stated that mixed retannages could provide optimum usage of these materials by utilising the advantages of both types.
This paper takes the characterisation process one step further and explores, in more detail, the behaviour of each type of syntan. Also presented are results obtained from mixed system retannages to further clarify the rationale for selecting products to meet set targets.

Tannage Résumé : Increasing economic and environmental pressures on the leather industry have resulted in the introduction of syntans based on alternative chemistry. By far the largest increased has been seen in the class of retanning agents based on acrylic chemistry.
The proliferation of acrylic based syntans has led to some confusion concerning the optimum use of these materials.
The work reported in this paper characterises a number of different acrylic syntans in terms of their ability to tan hide and explores the behaviour of these products on chrome leather. Some guidelines for the selection of products for retanning are suggested.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gxQsbF9b3QdjMXRea7fqNABVyyDsF4Tr/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=8985

Wet-white (tannage)Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The concept of wet white pretanning as an environmentally friendly technique for chrome reduction has been with us for some time. It was first recommended as lons ago as the late 1970's/early 1980's. Since its initial introduction to the leather industry a number of chemical companies have developed materials for use as pretanning agents. These materials have all had the same goal-namely the reduction of chrome in the effluent via reducedchrome usage. They have also had the aim of reducing chrome in the solid waste stream via completion of the splitting and shaving operations prior to chrome tannage.
Despite numerous development programs by both independent research units and chemical companies the concept has never reached its full potential. This paper will review the advantages and disadvantages of the wet white system. It will also attempt to answer the question of why the concept has never been fully accepted by the industry.Note de contenu : - TECHNICAL ASPECTS : System requirements - Storage stability - Easy sorting and grading - Simple method of manufacture - Use of low pollution chemicals - Versatility - Maintenance of leather performance and character - Economic production costs En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Z7uE6x7gDfViv3EZCndlpuptmSB_rLI9/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=7943
