Résumé : |
The catchphrase "clean technology" and the publicity slogans "biological leather" and "eco labels" have spread to tanning and the leather processing industry, and have some-times led to confusion amongst tanners and consumers. Not being protected in some countries, the word "bio" (biological) is encountered very frenquently. "Bio" is used as a sales-promoting prefix for the most widely varying consumer products. Food, cleaning products and garments in particular are frequently labelled "bio". Highly committed to this philisophy, leather-processing organization are considering what is to be understood by "biological leather". The following properties have already been mentioned: metal-free leather dyed with water-soluble organic or natural dyes, and if finished at all, then only with aqueous processes.
Unfortunately, the prefix "bio" is not reputed everywhere for giving accurate information about product. Therefore, proper consideration should be more point in considering whether a standard eco label would provide more information for the consumer |
