Composites manufacture by infusion process in is one method being studied to reduce the cost associated with current advanced composites manufacturing methods. The development of aircraft quality components by liquid resin infusion (LRI) is described. These components are competitive with both prepreg/autoclave manufacture and previously used infusion methods currently in serial production. The use of a relatively simple infusion method is described, with detail attention to process parameters to enable achieving stringent design requirements. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Oven Vacuum Bag (OVB) prepreg fabrication is an evolving process that can result in low cost, high quality composite structures. Compared to vacuum assiste resin transfer molding (VARTM) infusion processes, material costs are higher but manhour requirements are lower, and OVB prepreg does not require the same levels of skill and experience as VARTM fabrication. Breakthrough innovations in prepreg materials for non-autoclave fabrication have resulted in the ability to fabricate low void content laminates with vacuum bag consolidation. Specifically, the new prepreg constructions are characterized by fabric that is not fully wet-out with resin. When a vacuum is applied to a lay-up, air can escape through the dry fabric. With an increase on temperature, the resin viscosity drops, allowing it to infuse into the evacuated fabric.
OVB cure prepreg has been used to fabricate several composite structures for naval application, including rope guards and fairwaters, cover plates, and a prototype fully scale Cusp.Note de contenu : - OVB FABRICATION WITH CONVENTIONAL PREPREG : Goetz custom boats - Study of OVB processing with conventional prepreg - OVB fabrication with conventional prepreg at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding - Fairwater - Ropeguards
