A series of high solid alkyd polymers from soya and dehydrated castor oil fatty acid (SOFA and DCOFA respectively) combination with varying percentage of Dipentaerythritol (DPE ; a hexa-functional polyol), have been synthesized and characterized for their physico chemical, optical, thermal and mechanical properties. For the study purpose the polymers were prepared at 80 % solids keeping the oil length constant. The curing behaviour of the alkyds was studied using FT-IR and DSC. Increasing DPE content in resin backbone was found to increase gloss and hardness. The gloss improvement was also supported well by AFM pictures. Results of 500 hours of QUV exposure revealed higher gloss retention for DP based systems. When compared for the anticorrosive properties, the EIS spectrum reveals that alkyd film containing 100 % DPE has the higher value of impedance. The overall performance of the DPE based system reveals the excellent combination of green aspects with improved coatings which is the need of the day. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxy-Acrylic Graft copolymer Dispersions (EAGDs) were prepared from various grades of Epoxies by grafting Acrylic monomers on it including methacrylic acid to render water compatibility after neutralisation with tertiaryamine. The waterborne can coating compositions were prepared by varying the type ofEAGDs and amount of curing agent, hexamethoxy methyl melamine (HMMM). These compositions were evaluated for their various physico-chemical characteristics and film properties after curing at 200°C for 15 minutes. The conventional Epoxy-phenolic solvent based can coating compositions were also similarly characterised for their performance properties and for the comparison purpose. The study revealed the excellent performance of certain EAGD based waterborne coatings compared to the conventional solvent based can coatings. Parmar, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 32-37 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waterborne coatings - Waterbornes industrial coatings are the key area of interest for researchers because of industrial pollution, industrial safety and stringent legislations. Epoxy resins of higher molecular weight were grafted with acrylic monomers, neutralized and reacted with N-butoxymethacrylamide to generate curing site on its backbone and give water compatibility. Sets of self-curing coating composition were prepared and their physico-chemical charactéristics such as particle size and viscosity were measured. The performance properties of the cured films reveal their potential applications as high performance coating binders for waterborne coatings.
Revêtement auto-nettoyant:Peinture auto-nettoyanteIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In recent years, there has been a considerable amount of work on the development of contamination resistant coatings. Key advances in the understanding and fabrication of surfaces with controlled wetting properties has a major role to play in creating contamination-free or easy to clean surfaces. Two principal ways are at our disposal to understand surface of self cleaning materials which work by the removal of dirt by either film or droplet flow. When it comes to protecting building facades from the possible contaminants such as dirt, exhaust fumes containing oily components, minimal spotting or streaking and good weathering resistance self cleaning hydrophilic coatings comes into the picture.
Self cleaning nanocoatings use the advantages of Ti02's superhydrophilic behavior and then reduces dirt pick up and improves cleanability.
This paper describes the preparation, characterization & uses of organic-inorganic hybrid nanocoatings using Ti02 & SiO2 nanoparticles.Note de contenu : - Dirt and water-repellent "easy-to-clean" surfaces blessed by nanotechnology

Parmar, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 73-84 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The water-borne acrylamide based curing agents (WACAs) were synthesized using various proportions of methylmethacrylate (MMA), formaldehyde and methanol. These curing agents were blended with water borne hydroxyl functional acrylic resins (WHFAC) and the resulting compositions were applied on test panels. The coating compositions were also made from conventional hexamethoxy methyl melamine (HMMM) resin for comparison study. All the coated panels were stored at 150°C for 15 mins. The WACAs were characterized for their physical properties, IR-spectra and molecular weight by GPC. The coated films were also characterized for their mechanical properties, chemical, solvent, and water resistance and for thermal properties by TGA and DSC. The results indicate that comparable coating performance is achieved for some of the coating compositions under study.
