The "Surfactant" is a general term for surface active agent, which reduces the surface tension between solid-solid interfaces, solid liquid interface & liquid-liquid interface. Surfactants have multiple uses in aqueous coatings. In this review paper, Introduction of surfactant, structure of surfactant & types of surfactant are reviewed. The paper also consists of application of surfactant in aqueous coatings & selection of the proper surfactant. The paper also consists troubles faced during selection of proper surfactant. This paper also covers the H.L.B.(Hydrophilic lipophilic balance) value, which is an indication of the solubility of the surfactant & its determination. |
