les polyoléfines thermoplastiques semi-cristallines : polyéthylène (PE), polypropylène (PP), polyméthylpentène (PMP), polybutène-1 (PB-1) ;

Projection au plasmaIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nanostructured silver films of different thicknesses were deposited on surfaces of polypropylene nonwovens by magnetron sputter coating to obtain antibacterial and electrical conductive properties. The surface morphology of nanostructured silver films was investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The antibacterial properties of the nonwovens coated with relatively thinner films were evaluated using the shake flask test. The conductivity of the nonwovens coated with relatively thicker films was examined using an ohm-meter. The results of the antibacterial test revealed that the antibacterial performance improved gradually as the film thickness increased from 0.5 to 3 nm. It is believed that the total amount of silver ions released from the coating was increased along with the increase in film thickness. As sputtering time prolonged, the grain sizes of the silver particles were increased and the coating became more compact. The results of the electrical conductivity test showed that the increased film thickness led to the improved electrical conductivity when the film was relatively thicker. The AFM images clearly revealed the change in surface morphology formed by sputter coating. The growth and coverage of the coating layer contributed to the improvement in its antibacterial and conductive properties.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nanoscale titanium dioxide (TiO2) films were deposited on the surface of polyester nonwovens by using direct current reactive magnetron sputtering. The effect of oxygen flow on the surface structures and properties of the fabrics was investigated in this article. The surface morphology, microstructure, and the chemical composition of TiO2-coated fibers were characterized by atomic force microscope, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The effect of oxygen flow on deposition rate, white degree, and light transmission properties of the fabrics with nanoscale TiO2 films were examined. The test results proved that the oxygen flow was a key factor in sputter processing. The deposition speed decreased and the white degree of the fabric increased with increasing oxygen flow. The ultra-violet absorption by the polyester nonwoven fabric with TiO2 coatings was also enhanced as the oxygen flow increased in a proper range.
Recyclage (déchets, etc.)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The disposal of solid wastes, such as trimmings and splits generated in various manufacturing processes in a tannery is a serious challenge to the hides and leather industries. Most of these wastes are transported out of processing plants for landfills, not only incurring the expense of transportation but also creating environmental issues. Our effort to address these new challenges is to develop new uses and novel biobased products from solid wastes to improve prospective markets for the hides and leather industries. We hypothesize collagen fiber networks derived from un-tanned hides can be utilized to prepare high performance green composites and air filters, of which both have a great market potential. Collagen fiber networks were obtained from split hides that have been processed to remove the noncollagenous materials through the hair removal, liming, and bating steps. Previous research was devoted to understand the effects of dehydration on the resultant fiber networks and the effects of processing steps such as bating, pickling, and crosslinking treatments on the morphology and physical properties of the fiber networks derived from un-tanned hides, which will be the starting material for constructing air filters and green composites. This study focuses on preparations of nonwoven and green composites derived from fiber networks. Nonwoven sheets were prepared using paper-making technology. They were then used as reinforced components to make composites that use gelatin as the matrix. Mechanical properties were evaluated for the resultant composites ; results showed that the fiber sizes and gelatin content have significant effects on the properties of resultant nonwoven and composites.
