Auto components, whether metallic or non-metallic, require coatings that not only adhere effectively but also withstand the rigors of everyday use and challenging environmental conditions. One of the primary challenges lies in coating plastic parts, notorious for their low surface energy, making adhesion difficult. This necessitates extensive research to achieve enduring adhesion on plastic surfaces. Coating materials destined for OEM applications undergo rigorous, long-term performance tests, which include crucial evaluations such as cyclic corrosion resistance (ASTM B117), abrasion resistance (ASTM D4060), cross-hatch adhesion (ASTM D3359), and cyclic humidity resistance (ASTM D2247). In Indian context, water based coatings are not feasible for its cost & other operational issues, thus it is limited to CED application only. High solid coatings are the next alternate & it is gaining popularly for reduced VOC emission without compromising the physical & chemical properties of the coatings. Simultaneously all OEM manufacturers are seeking solutions for low bake coatings to restrict energy consumption in the curing process which will reduce carbon footprint in the whole supplychain. When we talk about low bake coatings, reactivity & catalysis plays pivotal role in achieving results. Developing a low bake top coat has many challenges. Increased reactivity of the resin system often contributes to uncontrolled & incomplete reaction which is responsible for poor physical, chemical & weathering properties. Use of excess catalyst also has an impact on Electrical Resistivity (ER) which is a very important application parameter for electrostatic spray application. Combination of catalysis & reactivity negatively impacts storage stability. Judicious selection of catalyst, its dose optimization, right combination of crosslinker resin, Base to crosslinker ratio is very important to get desired results. In the current research paper we will explore various aspects of low bake formulation ingredients & their effect on coating performance to develop a low bake glossy monocoat white which meets the performance requirements of commercial vehicle manufacturers. The alternate resource must possess and meet the expected criteria such as - their availability, eco-friendly nature, non- hazardous and that should be within the line of eco-friendly and non- hazardous material. Green initiatives in resin/ specialty chemicals manufacturing focuses on different aspects like use of eco-friendly and bio¬derived raw materials, hazard free or less hazardous solvent combinations in resins/coating solution, less volatile organic content (low-VOC) in resin production and supply. PolyestersRevêtement émail:Peinture-émail Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Enamel paint will naturally air dry and the drying time will vary in accordance with the type of enamel paint being used, the drying conditions and environmental conditions. Oil based enamels fully dry in 8 — 24 hours and dry on the inside first and then outwards. It is easy to tell when an oil based enamel has fully cured, as it will feel entirely dry when touched, the term enamel paint is also something of a misconception, as the majority of enamel paints on the market are considerably softer than vitreous enamel and even stoved synthetic resins. The binder is the key component of the paint, which includes natural and synthetic resins, vegetable oils and natural fats, etc. These are the film former materials in paints. The main function of the binders is to hold the different components together and to adhere the film with the applied surface. The basic properties of paints such as drying, gloss, hardness, durability, flexibility, abrasion resistance, impact resistance, chemical resistance, adhesion, etc. are solely governed by the binder system used in paint formulations.
