Thanks to the state of development and the availability of a range of biopolymers, it is now possible to produce "biocomposites". Some of the advantages of these materials are that they constitute a renewable resource, leave a smaller environmental footprint, and can be composted at their end of life; another is that parts made with them have good carbon storage potential. Many studies have been carried out on assemblies made with two-dimensional fabrics Even after optimisation, these assemblies do not meet the requirements for severe stresses from blast effect failing too easily due to delamination between two plies of 2D fabric. The present study deals with two aspects: 1) optimising the material properties of textile preform assemblies for shipbuilding applications through the use of stitched solutions for better delamination resistance; and 2) developing a numerical model based on cohesive zone mechanics that is capable of describing the deiamination process. The study was carried out in quasi-static conditions and the model implemented in the form of a subroutine within an implicit finite element code. Note de contenu : - Experimental study

Oxydation

Tannage Résumé : The use of oxidizing agent, such as hydrogen peroxide, was reported to shorten the oxidation process time of chamois tanning. Appropriate conditions for this tanning are needed in order to improve its process efficiency, and to obtain a satisfactory leather quality. The objectives of our study were to investigate the effects of oxidation times in chamois tanning on the quality of the resulting leather, and to determine the best condition of the oxidation time. The experiments were conducted by tanning pickled goatskin for 4, 6, and 8 hours oxidation times inside a rotary drum, and 1, 2, and 3 days of oxidation times outside the drum. The physical, chemical, and organoleptic properties of the leathers were then tested. This study showed that they fulfilled the quality requirements for chamois leather. The best conditions for oxidation were oxidation times of eight hours inside, and one day outside a rotary drum. Therefore, the use of hydrogen peroxide oxidizing agent shortened the oxidation process outside the rotary drum in chamois leather production from nine to two days. Isocyanate terminated prepolymers prepared primarily from isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and polyoxy propylene glycol (PPG) of MW 1000 were chain extended with trimethylol propane (TMP) and dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) as potential ionic centers. The urethane forming reaction was carried out in N-methyl-2-pyrollidone (NMP) using dibutyl tin dilaurate (DBTDL) as catalyst. The effects of DMPA and acrylic polyol (AP) on the particle size and its distribution have been studied by automizer. The mechanical properties of the emulsion cast films were determined using Universal tensile tester (Instron). Thermal properties have been studied by using TGA and DSC. It has been observed that the particle size decreased with increase of DMPA content and increased with AP content. Tensile strength decreased, but elongation at break increased with the increase of DMPA content, whereas tensile strength increased and elongation at break decreased with the increase of AP content.
