Whatever range of colours is provided in the OEM ( original equipment material )coatings also has to ba available in the field of automotive repair - often in a variety of different binder systems, depending on the country. These include alkyd melamine, NC combinations, 2-component paints based on hydroxyl terminated acrylics are undoubtedly on the advance wolrdwide due to the advantages they offer during technical applications. However, there are also binders whose wetting properties are unsatisfactory especially when used in the dispersion of finely-divided carbon blacks. These pigment dispersions are prepared by the reduction of the particle size of the pigment through mechanical grinding followed by the stabilisation of the pigment particle in the aqueous media. This stabilisation is frequently accomplished using low molecular weight acrylic resins. The actual performance of the resulting pigment dispersions, as described by the intensity of the colour development, stability and compatibility, is a strong function of the chemical composition and structure of the acrylic resin stabiliser. This paper describes how the performance of these dispersions can be explained in terms of the chemistry of the resin-stabilised pigment dispersions. Particle-particle interactions described by DL VO theory and the physical chemistry characterisation of the stabilised dispersions will provide insight into the workings of these chemical systems. The following polymers have been used: poly(N-vinyl caprolactame) (PVCL) of various molecular masses, poly(N-vinyl formamide) (PVFA), poly(i-propyl acrylamide) (PiPAA), copolymers of vinyl caprolactame with vinyl alcohol (CVCL-VA), ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose (EHEC), poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) of various contents of acetyl groups and molecular masses. The wetting effect was observed only in the case of poly(vinyl alcohol) samples with residual contents of acetyl groups between 10 and 20%. These samples possess high surface activity and as a result show the stabilizing effect on CuPc dispersions. The data on the optical density of the CuPc aqueous dispersions with separated solid phase show that the most effective stabilizer of CuPc dispersions is PVA with 17% of CH,COO groups and molecular weight of 10,000-11,000. The generation of an in-vitro tissue from bovine fibroblasts is carried out using a scatfold to generate a three-dimensional extra-cellular matrix (3D ECM). The development of a biopelt is by an in-vitro production at lab scale in a bioreactor with specific culturing conditions. New methodologies to stabilize the biomaterial generated were investigated. In particular, the biomaterial was stabilized by immersion in solutions of vegetable tannins and cross-linking agents in an aqueous-solvent medium.
