Environmentally friendly coatings pose multiple technological and cost-containment challenges. As a result, new wetting and dispersing technologies which simultaneously enhance performance and reduce costs have gained in importance. An in-depth discussion of the above crucial issues will be presented. Key words are : wetting vs. dispersing, deflocculation, controlled flocculation, reengineering, pigment concentrates, usage levels, points of addition, formulation hints. New, multifunctional polymeric additives for resin-free pigment concentrates and new additive structures to enhance performance in aqueous and high solids systems will also be presented. |
