Most of the automotive industries are now in a process of replacing metal body components with plastics components due to its light weight, ease in shaping and other advantages over metal components. Most of the automotive manufacturers are applying paints by electrostatic spray technique due to its better efficiency, less loss, reduction in VOC and better finishing. Plastics being non-conductive in nature cannot be applied by electrostatic spray application. For coating plastic by electrostatic application we have to provide a metal backing, which needs to be cleaned after every paint application to maintain its conductiveness ie the paint deposited is to be removed which is a very tedious job. This necessitated the development of a paint which when applied on plastic will act as a conductive coat. This paper reviews some formulating concepts of a conductive primer and how it has brought a new revolution in the world of plastics. Note de contenu : - Coatings based on conductive polymers

The leading edges of their rotor blade are protected with erosion-resistant materials to avoid rapid deterioration in sandy or dusty landing zones and severe sand, rain, or ice storms. The subject of this article is the search for a class of polymers offering superior erosion resistance and de-icing capability. Note de contenu : - The problem

Extensive thermal and composition measurements on injection-moulded polybutylene terephthalate plates show that the best filler consists of short aluminium fibres, and that thermal conductivity can be increased by a factor of 2, 6 and 10 using 20, 42 and 44 % vol. aluminium, respectively. Typical carbon nanotube loadings range from 0.2 to 1 wt%, which makes them a highly competitive additive. Since their direct incorporation in the host matrix, i.e. from raw powder, requires extensive know-how, Arkema has developed ready-to-use solutions consisting in highly-loaded concentrates. Compared with liquid dispersions offered on the marketplace which typically contain less that 2 wt% of carbon nanotubes, these concentrates offer enhanced formulation flexibility and ease of use, while reducing costs.
